Course summary:

Welcome to SOS Children’s Villages, 1.5 hour, e-learning course on preventing sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse (PSHEA). This course will introduce you to key PSHEA concepts, enable you to recognise SHEA risks, and encourage you to identify what you can do to support a preventative culture within SOS Children’s Villages. The course provides you with some practical advice, tools and practice that will help you prevent harm from occurring.
In this course, you’ll learn:

  • SOS Children’s Villages PSHEA Regulation;
  • How power and vulnerability impact SHEA;
  • How to spot signs of harm;
  • How to report concerns to SOS Children’s Villages;
  • How to use a victim and survivor centred approach;
  • How a toxic work environment contributes to SHEA and the role of managers in preventing SHEA.

This course does not equip learners to respond to SHEA incidents. Responding to incidents is covered in SOS Children’s Villages Misconduct Management Regulations.


This course has been specially created for all SOS Children’s Villages staff and partners to help us understand our measures and responsibilities for Preventing Sexual Harassment Exploitation and Abuse (PSHEA).

The course was designed using survey information and questionnaires from across SOS Children’s Villages and with the input of a design stakeholder group made up of staff from a range of our offices and work.

This course will give you practical tools and advice on

  • how to prevent harm from occurring
  • reporting SHEA concerns

Using these tools and advice is now a core component of your employment, so take time to understand the definitions and learning.


By the end of the course you will:

  • Be able to define key terms in PSHEA and the definitions SOS Children’s Villages uses.
  • Understand how PSHEA in SOS Children’s Villages links to the requirements of the UN and IASC.
