Purpose of the Code of Conduct:

The Code of Conduct is designed to establish shared expectations for acceptable behaviors.

It aims to create a safe environment for all and to safeguard the interests of children, young people, and communities.

Scope:

The Code of Conduct applies to all individuals associated with SOS Children’s Villages, including board members, paid staff, volunteers, consultants, partners, donors, and others.

It encompasses both professional and private life behaviors as they reflect on the organization.

Values-Based Approach:

The Code of Conduct is built upon the organization’s values and competency framework.

Values such as Commitment, Trust, Courage, and Accountability, along with key principles, guide the behavior expected.

Key Principles:

Key principles include “Do No Harm,” “Respect,” “Promote Inclusion,” “Address Unequal Power Relations,” “Promote Gender Equality,” “Value Cultural Differences and Diversity,” “Non-Violence,” “Observe International Standards and Best Practices,” “Integrity, Ethical Standards, and Professionalism,” and “Commitment to Ecology, Environment, and Biodiversity.”

Reporting Concerns and Incidents:

All individuals must report concerns regarding breaches of the Code of Conduct.

Reporting incidents is encouraged and should be done anonymously if necessary.

Protection will be provided to those reporting in good faith, and no action will be taken against them.

Expectations of Behavior:

The Code outlines specific behavioral expectations, such as treating everyone with respect and dignity, not engaging in sexual relationships with children or adult program participants, respecting national laws and local cultures, and safeguarding the well-being of children.

It also emphasizes the importance of integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with data protection laws.

Organizational Commitment:

The organization is committed to providing support and guidance to individuals to meet their commitments under the Code of Conduct.

This includes providing training, communicating the Code, and ensuring that reporting mechanisms are known.

Flexibility and Strategic Thinking:

Individuals are encouraged to address new challenges through flexible and strategic thinking and by working collaboratively with others.

Managers and leaders are expected to model good behavior and promote inclusion and equitable power sharing.

Continuous Learning:

Individuals are encouraged to seek opportunities for learning and improvement and to seek support when needed.

Responsibility for one’s actions and omissions is stressed.

Code Acknowledgment:

Individuals acknowledge that they have received a copy of the Code of Conduct and have read it.

Review and Compliance:

The Code of Conduct will be reviewed regularly to assess its effectiveness and implementation.

All actions taken must align with SOS Children’s Villages’ mission and values.

By successfully completing the module on The Code of Conduct, participant will be able get a comprehensive understanding on the behavior expected from each individuals associated with SOS Children’s Villages, emphasizing values, respect, protection, and integrity and pledge to abide by the same. Participants will also get an online e-certificate.
